Recommend a Let's Player!

Postby Rhihad » December 27th, 2014, 12:08 am

Heyo~ Since we all are in one way or another tied to the let's play community (probably anyways), I figured we might share some other LPers who naturally are inferior to Mister Aisou, but are in some ways interesting and worth the time spent! Give out a preferred series or such if people want recommendations. Raocow is probably moot by default, but someone might share the mysterious person either way.

I'll start by saying that I have a fairly wide list of random Let's Players from various different styles and genre-preferences. Here are three LPers that I do enjoy. Each for a different reason.

Helloween4545 - A British let's player mostly focused on Horror themed games. Have been following his productions for nearly 5 years now. Fast and witty with words and a really good selection of games make him a good choice. Although he specializes in horror, I'd say his ongoing series for A Ranking Valkyria Chronicles is definitely one of his best works.

Kikoskia - Another British let's player. He has a knack for old RPGs and some more obscure games he showcases. I enjoyed his videos a lot more back in the day when I began watching LPs, nowa days he might've gone past the best years. A friend of Helloween and they do some random co-op gaming which is definitely interesting. My favorite serie from him is definitely the old classic Lands Of Lore.

PinkKittyRose - An American (?) let's player who specializes in hard platformers especially. One of the main reasons why I've enjoyed her LPs thoroughly is her different way to comment on things. Her specialized annotation boxes make for a different kind of LP experience. Though I never really grasped the fursona thing, but it's just probably me. Her best series are probably tied to the Megaman series. Probably Megaman 9 Ms. Perfect run, which in itself is a feat to accomplish, but also Megaman 9 being a fantastic game all around. She likes to do things the hard way by handicapping herself, which makes many of her LPs really interesting.

Isocitration - He's a pretty entertaining LPer that I doubt anyone here has heard of.

She's an interesting LPer but she should really give the speech bubble things a little more time on screen. I hate having to pause constantly to actually catch all of what she says.

I was thinking about recommending BoaB, but I was too lazy to type out a thing like that. Glad to see someone else likes his videos. :)

BoaB is one of the best and most enjoyable to watch LPers I know of, but, I don't even know why I like his content so much

808TokyoBoi - One of my favorite Ocarina of Time speedrunners. Also has a couple AMAZING blindfolded playthroughs of it!

A German Spy - Dark Souls goodness

ATerraformer - Lesser known but still good SMW hack player

BaerTaffy - Amazing voice, great entertainment. plays survival games, cook serve delicious, stream vods.

Bisnap - Informative binding of isaac and ratchet and clank. Kind of arrogant though.

Cobalt Streak - Another great binding of isaac player.

Cromulent Archer - Project Zomboid with a calm tone, lesser known but still good.

Eckyman - More project zomboid, survival games and the escapists. overall pretty good quality.

Enter Elysium - More survival and sandbox games. Some AAA titles too.

Flabaliki - Energetic prisoin architect.

Haydunn - All your pokemon needs. Great humor and presentation too.

Namaztak - Binding of Isaac. with an emphasis on breaking and core mechanic exploration.

Lucahjin - Excellent female voice, with good humor as well.

NegativeZeroZ -Distorted Travesty with no audio commentary.

OdinsPack33 - One of the first lpers I watched, still good.

Officialstuffplus - Prison Architect in a funny atmosphere.

PBGGameplay - Who doesn't love peanut butter gamer?

Peteyboo - great SMW hack player but nothing current. I think he speedruns on the wii nowadays mostly streams but his old stuff is worth watching

Pholtos - More SMW hack and puzzle games.

Rchizzle9 - more Pokemon

Roundthewheelrtw - Lemmings and DOS games.

ShinyRawrquaza - Rougelikes; risk of rain, some puzzle and atmospheric games too.

sliax223 - Distorted Travesty, Necrodancer, rpgs

Sleepcycles - Amazing attitude, rougelikes, nuclear throne, let's look at clone.

zqxinran Necrodancer and nuclear throne. no audio commentary

Everything sephiko posted is good too, I watch ALOT of northernlion, nintendocaprisun and mathasgames. but those are so well known anyway.

Pcull44444 is one of my favorites.

I watch a lot of Terraria from Rockleesmile, pythonGB and ChippyGaming too. PythonGB.'s voice can get annoying though.

Really, right now I just watch raocow and Iso. I'm serious; not really a dedicated viewer of anyone else.

Absolut Zero wrote:ATerraformer - Lesser known but still good SMW hack player

I should really watch pholtos more, and I would watch aterra more if he uploaded more often. Although he has a job, which he didn't used to, so he can't really upload very often anymore.

Absolut Zero wrote:BaerTaffy - Amazing voice, great entertainment. plays survival games, cook serve delicious, stream vods.

northernlion
Rockleesmile

If you still wanted a good LPer to watch, I would pick from this list. Never really noticed Bisnap being arrogant, but maybe I just haven't watched him enough.

Oh, also PkGam. He's a really swell guy who has very informative walkthroughs of games and uploads daily. And he keeps all his content at PG level, too.

This is more or less how it is for me too. I watch some other LPers but sporadically. Other than them the only ones I really ever watch are PinkKittyRose and Deceased Crab. And I don't watch either of them very consistently. (Though I did watch all three of DC's La-Mulana LPs basically one after another.)

Iso and raocow are easily the 2 I would most recommend, most of the others I tune into occasionally when they're LP-ing a game that I like. Also a lot of them have been covered by Sephiko already, but I'll just state them anyway

others I watch somewhat frequently:

NakaTeleeli (something about his co-op LPs with ElementalOgre make them remind me of my group of friends in high school, also has a good voice for rambling and in-depth opinion-giving and such)
ProtonJon (twitch channel)
pholtos

others that I'm currently watching:
lucahjin
LuckySevenDX
chuggaaconroy
NintendoCapriSun
Bwarch
RobinLSL (just recently, thanks to talkhaus mosts (still think the best person won that category though))

others that generally interest me:
TheRunawayGuys
SuperJeenius
pcull44444
StephenPlays
MasaeAnela
rabbidluigi
GameGrumps
JoshJepson
KoopaKungFu
SlimKirby

I'm just going to splazz out all the lps I'm subbed to on yt. Most of these people I don't actively follow, or I subbed for just one lp or something.

8bitdame https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQRXhW ... 0QbSPaLtLg was good with what she did, she hasn't posted in like a year and that was after a year of nothing though. See also: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmdr7H ... BtCEZbI9HQ

AgFalconSA https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC76_OQ ... TirJ9ihS4w had a decent Okami LP. Then the thread for it went behind a no-guests-wall.

AgShotful https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTkwTe ... tN2mgvGVHQ had a fun "Let's break OoT" lp.

aJazzyFeel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKAWjG ... EvLOlbMiKg really funny, interesting person in general (full disclosure: I consider her a pretty good friend).

Bananapielord/Mr. Hewbz https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5TSSo ... X2wMCnQJnQ / https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRhw03 ... jYZCsM6NxQ was like a guilty pleasure in 2010, and just proof that I have bad tastes too. He was pewdiepie esque if a millionfold more coherant. Then he took a break. He's the first minecraft lp I watched and liked. And his Amnesia LP is not really embarassing to be seen watching - it's damn good actually.

AntLionAlpha https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFxlXI ... DogCNJuymw did an oot über challenge LP - might have been more interested in the challenge than him though, idr. His and Agshotful's lp run a bit together in my mind, if only because I watched them both at about the same time.

ChipCheezum https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBZdbf ... 5SN_jzdWVw https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtKcVd ... q-PIf22u7g https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6wjRs ... UuKl1JBSkw (and Ironicus somewhere) is pretty good. He and GeneralIronicus were a different dimension to retsupurae than old slowbeef and diabetus

DazzlingAdder https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzwlvQ ... Y5NNEBzyoQ another SA lper, pretty funny. She hasn't done much on youtube lately but is on twitter a lot. Also esports

Diabetus https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHVlQH ... dzqju7Uj9Q one of the inventors of the lp, responsible for this whole mess

FaceGuy https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCenaQ8 ... 4Tk8Gwf7Mg a SA lper; watched his Paper Mario lps

Irysheman https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCu6cTw ... yxVSz4Gb3g just a friend of BPL's

Mysteriously I have two Jolpengammler's https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDi6qC ... n9ORH1Mrbw https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnJm4L ... 6i1qIv2KmA

Kazeugma https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQwiOQ ... pmN8HiRdpQ is a really smart lax guy from SA. He does his own things like hearthstone and magic but you can usually find him in medibot's lps.

LesBeardly https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxdl12 ... lgaOG6vX6w SA guy, attempted to retsupurae too

Marriland https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCe2yn- ... JPheQgzm_A - *very* pg, very "grandmotherly" sense of humour, but ok and very enjoyable. Known for his running a pokémon fansite. Used to have issues letting his fans ruin his experience, now idk

MeccaPrime https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCF6WFB ... OlUr3JF9pg another funny SA guy

medibot https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeFUiB ... laOIR7KFzQ very lax, but very funny. Really awesome.

MicolytheSA https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCy4WQb ... DDIKh1tgTg another SA degenerate

MidnightSun308 https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCe3Rfa ... 0M4CWmV3Pg watched his MQ playthrough

MoltovMarioWorld https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDK7A9 ... zgqgZHdl1Q he's retired to speedrunning. The glorious king of Sneetoses

Naka https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJbtPH ... 76LBPi5hnw has the best minecraft lp period. Liked most of what I've watched since, but his okami lp got on my nerves big time because he didn't understand what came with the territory

Nathanisbored https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfaV7Q ... 3Qm3tlUSfg someone I know

OnigirlVal https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGYdLY ... Un2GloF4-Q BPL's X

Pokecapn https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC--LqL ... 1Ai6x6IEkw The Original Sonic 2006 LP. Accept no imitations.
http://lparchive.org/Sonic-The-Hedgehog-2006/

ProtonJon https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCk1Fo1 ... hffJGvDSUg POOOOOKEEEEEEEYYYY (whuer is bateman 63?)

PsychedelicEyeball https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeOxS5 ... araMGedONg A french canadian surrealist who is also a something awful lper

Rich "Lowtax" Kyanka https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPoSHO ... qZr6bJlMkQ King Something Awful himself.

Shmorky https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbv8yt ... ve9u6CnszQ the original tagalong kid. Animator more than lper, you'll find this person usually helping Kyanka lp garbage.

retsupurae https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7UdKZ ... lP93dfjMgA let's lp lps with lp the progenerators

slowbeef https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6e3i1 ... YF68x8sg4w if my sources are correct, this is the foremost inventor of the lp, so send all your hate to him.

Spacekop/ KungFuJesus https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7MdGn ... kIQ9dPWtsA part of pokecapn's posse, along with medibot and kaz,

SuperMCGamer https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6MqXe ... zE-DmebTRw I actually find him too cringey to really watch. Not bad bad cringey, but not bad good cringey. idk. But I watched him speedrun some stuff

SwordlessLink https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkvdZX ... 8ghtP1L2Ug Extremely negative. one of the original speedsters back when that was a word. His recent LADX lp is really good though, I recommend it.

teacupika https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbIo_4 ... QZTtfTlemA forgot who she is other than connected to BPL in some way

tylerosaurus https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC19xzC ... vsgZXn7_lw BPL's friend

Vicas3 https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCA9nMg ... ke7VLcE8lA chill, funny guy. Recommended lps: sm64+feet, yi

I used to watch Zeta Plays until he went all anti-SJW on me. Talks like a channer sometimes https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSjJcH ... zZdQ9iYUxw

Not listed because you people should know them: Photos, Aterraformer, Iso, Frozelar, and raocow. All recommended to certain degrees

gamercal is someone I remember but can't find. raocow liked him and so I watched him for a while, but haven't seen anything in like a year beyond his streaming

I think this will link you to the speedrunners I follow too: http://www.twitch.tv/tovarischkrasnyjes ... /following

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcqS4G ... EE05q2rXCA
RobinLSL: French guy. Plays Touhou and Touhou-fangames, mostly on the harder difficulties. Plays old (S)NES games. Plays the piano reeeaaal good. Streams most of his games live on youtube lately, leading to quite formidable video-lengths after he's done. Real fun guy. Recommended by raocow in passing at one point, which is how I found him - his commentary seems sometimes slightly inspired by the cow.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnYhL9 ... _3wThUhCog
AdamantDitto: A group of guys and gals from all over the place. Let's play as a group. Completely underrated. Are bad at games in the most funny way (and call there Let's Plays "Let's try that agains" for a reason). Lot's of funny video editing. Do non-Let's Play videos as well, but mostly about games either way.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpvugL ... XlO0KUtXXQ
LoadingReadyRun: Canadian Comedy People. Well known for their charity "Desert Bus for Hope". Have been streaming Let's Plays live on twitch for a year now, multible times a day, and keep uploading them to their youtube channel. They have different series, focusing on different kinds of games, run by different people of their group. http://www.twitch.tv/loadingreadyrun is their twitch channel, with all the information you could ever need down below.

You guys mentioned so many good ones already! And there's so many I've never heard of that are mentioned here and that seems really interesting!

I can only contribute with Tyler from WiiRikeToPray. He rarely updates though, and maybe he never will update again, but I think what he made solo (and the really early work from WRTP) is very good. His best work is his partial let's play of Vip4 (note: it's on their main channel, not his solo channel).
I'm so sad he doesn't do more solo stuff, and their main channel changed from 4 guys joking around to humorless playthroughs of the newest Nintendo games for an incredibly childish (in the sense of not understanding irony) audience. Oh well.

Canadian!! I used to watch her a few years back but haven't kept up, like most LPers I used to watch.

Only LP I've been keeping up with lately is Retsupurae's Sonic 06 play through, though I'm sure if you know of Let's Play, you know of Retsupurae cause you know... Slowbeef and all.

Many beople don't know what retsupurae is, only things like pewdiepie and gamergrumps. There are also people who don't know what myspace is, despite using facebook, or people who know what telephones are, but not edison, or know what a flat sign is, but don't know anything about JS Bach or Josquin des Prez

Both raocow and ProtonJon have been mentioned. Those are the two I watch the most.

Some other people I do watch on occasion are Markiplier, Cryaotic, The Runaway Guys, and Rooster Teeth.

I find LPs hard to watch sometimes cause my attention tends to drift.

Pretty much any I'd recommend are already here, except...
Splitable Infinitive
Although she hasn't done any LPing in a while now due to, from what I can gather, general life busyness. Still hopeful that one day she'll get back to it.

Oh yes: also not really a LPer but a Twitch streamer I love to watch is LobosJr.

He kind of specializes in being really good at Dark Souls (seriously, check out some of his challenge runs) but he plays other games too. Really though, I and many others mostly just like to watch him play Dark Souls. He also recently quit his job to stream full time which is cool!

Well if we're including Twitch streamers, than I'd definitely recommend YouPickGames.
He's a pretty entertaining dude, and the best part is the gimmick of his stream. If you couldn't tell by the username, every other week the viewers vote between four different games, the fourth being chosen by subs/donators/OGs, to be played the following week. Used to be that every week it was a voted game, but he got really burnt out and wanted more time to stream stuff he wants.

Ooh, I have a few that I watch.

chuggaaconroy (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIJ6_p ... VMPYzwQz9g) - Assortment of Nintendo games and a few 3rd party games on Nintendo systems. Informative; no blind runs.

cobanermani456 (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtr2Vq ... Q15jOfK1vg) - Assortment of games, but mainly Sonic games and games on Nintendo systems. Not one of my favorites, but he's pretty entertaining and can be somewhat knowledgeable on series that he likes.

GameGrumps (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9Cuvd ... CiwdGKL3cQ) - Very funny channel that works with tons of different games. A variety of hosts/co-hosts, and can be blind or knowledgeable depending on the people playing. More... unrestrained humor, if you will.

Olizandri (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyD2MT ... 9gRMKS8HSA) - Assortment of games, with many blind playthroughs but also some that he knows well. He's pretty chill in all honesty, and can get pretty into the game sometimes.

PinkKittyRose (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClrsfa ... OyekLJODqA) - Different games, but mainly ones on Nintendo systems. Occasionally does perfect runs of Mega Man games and personal challenges of other games.

RoahmMythril (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCawRUr ... 4b1LjaqWog) - Mainly does Mega Man perfect runs and personal challenges of Nintendo games, but occasionally does other games.

Cauchemar, a Swiss-German Let's Player, has a special place in my heart for being one of the (if not the) first LPer I ever watched. Not sure how well his older stuff holds up since it's been... 7 years since back then, but yeah, give him a watch some time.

My first lper... actually... it was some kid who was going through YI, and I remember watching him going through 5-4 and calling the yellow rolly slimes pudding... like banana pudding skins or something like that. I'm being terribly helpful I know but actually I'd kinda like to find him one day again. But it wasn't for another like 2 years that I made a yt account anyways, probably lost to time. (rao was my second, thanks to tvtropes :disgusted:)

Rao was the second LPer I started watching too. Though I quickly stopped watching the first one because he only had a few LPs I was interested in plus he insisted on doing that facecam crap. (This is the guy by the way.) I do watch a few more but only Iso and raocow regularly.

I've been watching quite a lot of videos from Kikoskia and Cryaotic lately. First one plays many old (and some newer) games and some western RPGs, while the second one has been focusing on story related things. Both of them have very recognizable voice which I find nice.

A lot of you guys have probably at least given him a glance since Raocow gave him a shoutout a while back but Alex Diener is one of the only LPers I'm sure to catch every video from. His recent run of Legend of Grimrock 2 is one of my all time favourite LPs up there with Raocow's Super Talking Time 2.5 and Iso's La Mulana.
